Effective date: January 1, 2026
These Terms explain the rules for using the IHNYC RC web properties, including the calendar subscription system and related technical features (the “Service”).
Quick Summary
- Be respectful: don’t attack, scrape, overload, or abuse the Service.
- Calendar tokens are sensitive: treat tokenized calendar URLs like a password.
- No circumvention: don’t try to bypass token gating or spam signups.
- Best-effort availability: the calendar and site may change, be temporarily unavailable, or contain mistakes.
This summary is here to help. The full Terms below are what control.
Important relationship notice. Affective Technologies operates the website and technical backend supporting the Resident Council and is not affiliated with the Council, with International House NYC, or with AVI Foodsystems.
1. Who operates this service
The Service is operated by Affective Technologies LLC (“Affective Technologies,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). The Service supports Resident Council communications and utilities, including the calendar subscription system.
2. Acceptance of these Terms
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
3. The Service
The Service includes:
- Informational web properties (for example,
ihnyc-rc.org) - Calendar subscription system (for example,
calendar.ihnyc-rc.org) - Links to third-party resources (for example, documents and forms hosted on other domains)
- Security and operational controls (for example, access controls, rate limiting, and abuse prevention)
4. Eligibility
You must be able to form a legally binding agreement where you live to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have permission to do that.
5. Calendar subscriptions, magic links, and tokens
The calendar subscription system uses email-based magic links to verify access. When you request a subscription, we send a transactional email (via Resend) containing a link that verifies your email address and allows us to mint an access token.
Access to the .ics calendar feed is token-gated. Calendar applications (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, and others) may automatically fetch your feed on a schedule.
Keep tokens secure. Tokenized calendar URLs are sensitive. If someone obtains your tokenized link, they may be able to access your feed until the token expires or is revoked. If you believe your tokenized link has been shared or compromised, contact us so we can revoke it and issue a replacement.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its admin tools, or underlying systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service (including abusive or excessive automated traffic outside normal browser behavior)
- Abuse, scrape, or overload the Service (including repeated automated requests outside normal calendar-client behavior)
- Spam signups, attempt to bypass verification, or circumvent token gating
- Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, or deceptive activity
You may link to the Service, as long as you do so in a way that is fair and does not suggest endorsement or affiliation.
7. Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We make the Service available on a best-effort basis.
Calendar events, schedules, and published content may change, be incomplete, or contain errors. Your calendar client may not always refresh immediately.
8. Intellectual property and content
All technical components of the Service (including software, source code, system design, workflows, automations, UI, schemas, and backend infrastructure) are intellectual property of Affective Technologies LLC, unless otherwise stated.
You may not copy, reverse engineer, redistribute, or create derivative works from the Service or its technical components, except where the law allows it or where you have our written permission.
Event/content ownership. Event details and other content made available through the Service may be provided by the Resident Council and/or third parties. Any trademarks, logos, or third-party content remain the property of their respective owners. Unless we state otherwise, you may use the calendar feed for your personal calendar subscription and viewing.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers for certain functions (for example, hosting, storage, email delivery, security protections, automations, and analytics), including:
| Service | Purpose |

Your use of those third-party features may be subject to their terms and policies.
The Service may also link to third-party websites and resources (for example, Notion pages, Google Forms, Canva documents, or external calendar services). We are not responsible for third-party content, availability, or practices.
10. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you also agree to that policy.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not promise the Service will always work perfectly or be available at all times. Calendar events and schedules can change and may not always show the most current information.
Content on the Service may include information provided by third parties (for example, announcements or links). We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of third-party content.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Affective Technologies LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
13. Indemnification
If your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms causes claims or costs for us, you agree to cover those losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees), to the extent permitted by law.
14. Termination and access controls
We may suspend or revoke access to the Service (including revoking tokens) at any time, with or without notice, including to prevent abuse, protect security, comply with law, or enforce these Terms.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will update the Effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
